Basketball Tournament Welcome Letter

Welcome to the 2026 MCAC State Basketball Tournament weekends!

We are deeply grateful to Cambridge Christian School and Fourth Baptist School for graciously hosting this year’s Girls and Boys State Tournaments. Our sincere thanks go to the many volunteers, coaches, players, and spectators whose efforts and enthusiasm will help make these tournaments a meaningful and successful experience for every team. We especially celebrate the student-athletes who will take the court this weekend, using their God-given talents in ways that inspire and encourage us all. Above all, we rejoice in the unity we share through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May all that is said and done throughout this event bring honor to Him and reflect respect and kindness toward one another.

History of the League

The Minnesota Christian Athletic Conference (MCAC) was established in the summer of 2024 through the merger of two longstanding Christian school athletic organizations—the Christian Athletic League (CAL) and the Minnesota Association of Christian Schools (MACS). Representatives from both leagues formed a joint committee that ultimately became the MCAC Executive Board. This board continues to meet regularly to provide oversight and to ensure the healthy growth and smooth operation of our conference.

The introduction to the MCAC Handbook states:

The MCAC exists as an outflow of our member schools’ strong commitment to Christian education and our desire to train young people in every area of life upon the foundation of biblical truth and values. The MCAC provides an opportunity for students to live out their Christian faith in the athletic arena as they compete with schools of similar size and philosophy. We value and seek to cultivate lasting, meaningful relationships among our member schools and participants.

During our first two years, the league has continued to grow in both membership and athletic opportunities. More than 20 schools across the region now participate at the varsity level, with additional schools partnering in junior varsity and middle school programs. The MCAC currently sponsors six varsity sports with corresponding State Tournaments: Boys Soccer, Girls Volleyball, Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Girls Soccer, and Boys Volleyball. We remain committed to exploring new ways to serve our schools and student-athletes, strengthening interschool relationships, and thoughtfully considering future expansion.

Basketball Playoffs and State Tournament Format

At the conclusion of the regular basketball season, all varsity teams were seeded to create playoff brackets. First-round games were hosted by the higher seeds, with the top eight advancing teams entering the Tier 1 bracket and the remaining teams competing in the Tier 2 bracket. The Tier 2 tournament will recognize first-, second-, and third-place finishers, while the Tier 1 tournament will award Championship, second-, third-, and Consolation trophies. Selected athletes will be named to First and Second All-Tournament Teams. In addition, First and Second All-Conference Teams have been chosen to honor outstanding regular-season performances. These honorees are listed in the tournament program and will be recognized during Saturday’s awards ceremony.

We are sincerely thankful for the countless individuals who contribute their time, energy, and prayer to make our league and these State Tournament weekends possible. It is our hope that this event will not only showcase excellent competition but will also strengthen friendships and partnerships among our schools. We look forward with joyful anticipation to all that the Lord will accomplish through this special weekend.

In Christ,

Jeff Bonkoski (MCAC Co-director)
